"That guy never leaves the keys in the ignition. Doesn't he trust me?"
My cousin Linda and I are only a few months apart in age and have always had a lot of fun every time we get together. She wanted a ride in the Corvette and her request was that we cruise her home church parking lot as the morning service was just getting out. We did just that. As jaws were dropping, Linda calmly told her life long fellow church members that I was her new man and this was our new car. It was hoot!
Linda's mom, Aunt Anne, not to be outdone by her daughter, wanted to pose in the Corvette too. Needless to say, this drew a large contingent of photographers, paparazzi, you might say.
After having so much trouble getting into the bucket seat, she was not about to leave right away. She is really getting into it here. She is over ninety and almost blind.
Like true royalty the 'Queen wave' sets off a plethora of camera clicks and flashes as Aunt Anne enjoys her moment of fame. Don't forget, she was married to a former Provincial Minister of Highways so she is used to media attention. Uncle Dave would not only be proud of her, but a bit envious too.
The three acorns (her daughters Linda, Betty, and Dale) did not fall far from the tree as they wanted to get in on all the attention too. I kept checking my pocket to make sure I had not left the keys in the ignition. I had this vision of the headlines in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix the next day: "Blind 92 Year Old Woman in Corvette Terrorizes Sleepy Osler Streets" As you enter the town of Osler, there is a sign reminding one that the streets of Osler are also the sidewalks of Osler.
