Day 1
We were up early and on the road by 7:30 am. There was light in the sky by the time we hit Bellingham. The sky was beautiful and the threat of fog gradually dissipated. It was a photographer's delight by the time we hit the I-5 but as anyone who travelled this busy route knows, there is no stopping unless one takes an exit and finds some country roads. By then, the scene has either disappeared or changed. The sun was out up to Seattle and then the rest of the way to southern Oregon it was a mixed bag, a potpourri, a smorgasbord of sun, fog, rain, cloud, and torrential downpours. Never a dull moment, but oh so mild. Around Woodburn we cracked open the sunroof and took off the jackets. We thought, each time the sun broke through, that we were already in California.
Traffic was steady, but never really heavy. We are always amazed at how many big rigs there are on the I-5. Many times more than other vehicles.
We are in Grant's Pass for night at the Shilo Inn. Della's restaurant just down the street was recommended to us and we even got a discount there because we were guests at the Shilo. Can't believe the hotel rates. So cheap, almost free. I am thinking they are desperate for business. As usual, we picked up a discount coupon booklet at one of the highway rest stops and found the deal that was for us. Hotel/motel rates under $50.00 are common, down to $35.00!
