Summer Nostalgia

We have been having the best summer ever, weather wise. At times, it has seemed like it will never end. But, each day is a little shorter, the mornings a bit more crisp, the trees looking a little more dried out, and any day now the winter rains will begin.

I get a strong feeling of nostalgia when we are in Oroville in the autumn. The boats are put away for the winter and the lake is calm. The Canada Geese are practicing their formations for the trip south, the apple trees are laden with ripe fruit, and the desert is very dry and brown.

I photographed this scene on one of our morning walks last weekend and it cries out to me in nostalgic tones. The summer party is over, the holidayers have all gone home, and all that is left is an abandoned table and chairs, soon to be covered with fallen leaves, and then the cold snows of winter.

I just can't decide which version conjures up the strongest feeling of nostalgia, the coloured one or the black and white.
