A friend of ours, who is a flute teacher, was invited to teach at Fountainview Academy, a Seventh Day Adventist high school in Lillooet, BC. This is a boarding school that excels in the arts and in teaching the students to work and play together in community, something which builds character. A part of the curriculum is working on the largest organic carrot farm in BC. We have seen the carrots at the Silver Hills bakery here in town, another SDA business, where we buy all our bread. (We grow our own organic carrots)
So our friend highly recommended that we take in a Christmas concert this weekend, put on by the school. And what a treat that was!
I was immediately impressed by the confidant and fresh faced young men and women who sang, and played in the rather large orchestra. The first thing that struck me was their appearance. They were all very clean-cut and not a single one of the more than 100 teenagers was overweight. (That is what hard work and a diet of organic carrots and Silver Hills squirrely bread will do) The playing and singing was excellent for people their age, from grade ten to twelve. The concert was truly Christmas music, and all classic, ending with an excellent rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus.
It was our first event of the Christmas season and we are off to a great start.
