An Autumn Road Trip

When Fall arrives, I get wanderlust. The hot summer is over, the roads are no longer congested, and the Autumn colours are crying out to be photographed. Every year I say "This time I am just going to do it" and then other priorities get in the way. Not so this year. Andrew and I decided at the last minute that the weather was acceptable, the timing for taking a day off was somewhat OK, and certainly the desire was there. Just which route to take?
Early enough to avoid the rush of traffic, we headed east to Hope and beyond. As we entered the Fraser Canyon, we saw, from a distance, that we would be driving through fog for a time. By the time we got to the Alexandria Bridge, the mist was breaking up and then the fun began. Above, I am standing on the bridge and marvelling at how the whole structure heaves and sways as the big rigs rumble by. This bridge spans the Fraser River between Hope and Boston Bar.

Besides the river, there is also a railroad running beneath this bridge. This was good timing as there was a train rumbling beneath me as the trucks were rumbling beside me.

I thought this scene off in the distance was quite beautiful as the trees were peaking above the low fog bank....

Just as an American Bald Eagle was winging its way through the valley.

From the deck of the new (1966) Alexandria Bridge, one can catch a glimpse of the old Alexandria Bridge. Tomorrow some scenes of the old bridge, up close and personal.

The Fraser River is one of the world's greatest Salmon rivers and this sculpture on either end of the bridge commemorates that fact.
