Day 21

After a very leisurely breakfast, we attended the 11 am service at the Desert Springs Community Church. This is the same church where we attended the wonderful Christmas Choir  program before Christmas. The people were friendly, the music lively, and the preacher was young, articulate, and very good. I heard what I needed to hear to encourage me to make a New Year's resolution, something I rarely do.
Because the church was right across the street from the University of the Desert where the big street fair is, we asked permission to leave our car in the church parking lot and then headed to the market. Our idea was to grab a bite at one of the food booths for a quick and easy lunch. We all ended up buying a few things, including more of that awesome Kettle Corn they make here.
Our afternoon was very laid back. We read, visited, played some Scrabble, sharpened our skills on the pool table, and ate. After a long walk, with a dinner of leftover Cornish Game Hen in our bellies, we fired up the hot tub. Is this sounding repetitious?
I suddenly realised, today, that I have not thought about work for a few days now, which proves my theory that one cannot really unwind without more than two weeks of vacation. I am really starting to think seriously about not working. Of course, reality back home will dictate, to a large degree, what that will look like, but I am certainly getting a taste of what that feels like. The leisure will only be a small part of retirement, but the 'not working' is the part that is exciting me. My body is repairing. The old aches and pains are diminishing. I am sleeping better. I have more desire to exercise. I wake up raring to go. Well, sort of.
Tomorrow is rain, again, and then the warming trend will start and it will be back to the outdoors.
