In case you were wondering why I have isolated the blossom on a black background, the reason is twofold. The well defined edges of an orchid can be lost in a cluttered background. Black always makes the elements of a photo 'jump out' and the eye can concentrate on the beauty and intricacies of this amazing flower without distraction. The other reason is that a photographer must always consider the background when shooting. The backdrop to the display of Orchids at the Seattle Flower show is rows and rows of potted plants with many gardeners milling about with shopping bags and carts and husbands in tow.
