One of the many differences I noticed about the California countryside compared to our own, is the lack of family farms in that state. The tracts of agricultural land are huge and there are often no buildings to speak of. They are factory farms, mulitnationally and corporately owned. For someone like me who seeks out old barns and photographs them, the miles and miles of countryside with no barns, is a big disappointment. A trip into central and eastern Washington and Oregon state is a much bigger payoff.
