More of the Painted Desert

Did somebody spill some paint here?
Blood red and not a bit of colour saturation in Photoshop!
This area is a rock hound's paradise, except for one thing. Nobody is allowed to break any rocks or carry anything out of the park. We climbed way off the beaten track and found a little gully where nobody had broken that rule, yet. We gathered together a few of the colourful stones and did not take anything with us but this photo. More moonscape. This was one of the more interesting landscapes we have ever explored and it gave me a yen to learn more about geology. The Ranger told us later that a Big Horn sheep had been spotted earlier in the day, and of course, we saw the huge Jack Rabbit here. I have no idea what they live on, especially in the heat of summer when the temperatures soar to 114 F.

Aha! I knew it! Let me guess...there is now a nine pound pink polished painted boulder perched on his fireplace mantle?
